I apologize for the less than creative title of this post...I am sure you will need a cup or three of coffee to get through it also!
Busy, busy week...I will probably say that a lot over the next few weeks - cause it is going to be SO TRUE. I don't think I have had a May this busy since I got married, lo all those eighteen years ago. But is May is shaping up to be ridiculous...and these last two weeks in April are pretty bad themselves.
Here is a brief recap of our week so far.
School, work, early bedtime,
School, work, power outage, Hannah banged on her drum set as she was "practicing" her favorite song King of Pain and literally busted through one of the drums. Please add in plenty of tears and pleas for me to take it the music store to be fixed...right then...at 8 o'clock at night! Please then add in more tears and hysteria because I said no...and then add in more of the same as she explained how she needed a REAL drum set! I am working on it...hopefully the original "King of Pain" will come through for her! The things we will do for our child! I will be glad when her drum phase is over - I have never once busted a piano key!
Today was school, work and a fabulous playdate with Hannah's friend Kaitlyn. We broke in the new swing set, build a bears had a tea party, there was a wild game of trick 0r treat/hide and find the easter eggs, some dress up and several WWF-worthy moves on the trampoline. I think there was even a popsicle or two and some good ole BagelBites thrown in there as well.
It was a great afternoon.
Oh - and the biggest news of all --- Hannah has her first wiggly tooth - front and center on the bottom...I kinda felt faint - I am praying it comes out when she is with her grandparents or daddy or even better - at school with a teacher. I am not really good with the yucky!!! I lived through the belly button...but the tooth thing might just do me in!
Hope you are having a fab week...

I found a book on writing this past weekend. There are exercises in the book to broaden and poke and prod us wannabe writers in directions that will hopefully produce a little bit of quality work. The assignment today was to write a poem. Since I have been dabbling in poetry here already...I decided to dabble some more today!
This one comes from a personal experience. Someone I love once said I was precious to them and then proceeded to act just the opposite. I am sure it is a universal theme. I am sure at different times in my life I have been the perpetrator as well as the victim. I have learned tons about life from my experience above, I hope you can learn a little bit too!

A Weekend That Turned Out Better Than It Started!
Saturday was the pits.
We were all set to go to a car show with the newest family addition and the weather just did not cooperate. I don't know if you are aware of this, but cars that are fifty three years old, do not like rain. And so Hardwood Floors never made it out of the shop and the husband and child came back inside for what turned into a very long day!! Hubby had to work nights, so he went on to bed, my child on the other hand had awakened at 7 AM (ON A SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!) and was mentally prepared to spend a day of fun in the sun, at a car show and festival with kiddie rides and bounce houses and concessions that sell yucky (to me anyway) hot dogs and popcorn! She was, and let me put this gently, NOT a happy child when she realized the rain pouring out of the sky was sentencing her to a day inside, with, GASP - just her mother for entertainment. Mommy wasn't so happy either. I had envisioned a day of real house cleaning. No child or husband around to make more mess, just me, some loud music, a vacuum cleaner and a clean house at the end of the day.
Well, there was some cleaning going on, not as much as I would have liked and sadly at the end of a very long day, the house was still pretty much a wreck, the child was so bored she actually took a nap, hubby went to work and well, it was just a sad, sad day.
The nighttime didn't get much better as a thunderstorm struck about 1 AM and scared my child half to death. We did manage to get up and get to church, but we were sleepy!
On the way home, my husband called and told me he had plans to take Hannah to another car show at a local high school. It was a completely opposite day from Saturday, so he and Hannah and Hardwood Floors took off for an afternoon of car show fun. I grocery shopped and then attempted to do some laundry, but got distracted by the couch and a marathon of Kimora Life in the Fab Lane. It was a wonderfully lonely afternoon!
My crew finally came home, in time for my hubby to leave for work, but they brought home this...
Yep! Hardwood Floors won her first trophy! Top Ten in Show. See that face...happy husband, happy life! I sure hope she keeps winning...I may get those floors after all!

Looking Back...
I've shared with you the things I am thankful for this week...but today, I am feeling desperately nostalgic and have now decided to share with you some things I am missing.
Living with my parents. I miss having a clean home to come home to...and clean laundry and a nice meal. Yep, I was S.P.O.I.L.E.D. as I was growing up - not ashamed to admit and quite frankly - I am not ashamed to admit that I would move home tomorrow if I could...course my old bedroom would be crowded, with the husband and the child and the dogs and the toys and the clothes and the gazillion other stuff I have accumulated in the 20 years since I left home...but I think I could handle all of that, for just one day of how life used to be...back in the good ole days!!
Working at the tuxedo shop. It was hard, hard work. We played hard and worked hard and fought hard and laughed hard and it was the best time of my life. (oh and yes, I did live at home then too!) I got paid next to nothing, worked twelve hours days during prom and wedding season, met tons of people, learned tons of life skills, lived and loved in an ancient, concrete building for some of the best years of my life. I would do it all over again without even a passing doubt.
High School. Oh - don't get me wrong...I am glad it is over, don't want to go back to school, but I miss having my best friends with me for eight or more hours a day, every day. I miss rushing home from those friends just to call them on the phone and talk for a few more hours of the day. I miss prom, Young Life, prayer breakfast, football games, pep rallies - yeah - just the fun stuff...but I miss the people I love being in my everyday life, more!
My old church group of young marrieds. Now, that is a novel in itself, but I truthfully miss the companionship we all had, it is one of the hurts in my life that I can't seem to hurdle over very easily. I miss the fun nights of Bible study, the Sunday night after church fellowship dinners, the trip to Hilton Head or Pigeon Forge, the closeness I ridiculously felt we were a part of, which time has taught me that we truly were not...but I miss the feeling of it all, before I knew the truth.
Dating. No, I am not jumping the marriage ship - been on this one too long, invested too much, and I might kinda love the person I am married to just a bit (shh - don't let that secret out!) but I do miss that dating time of life. The anticipation of meeting of someone new, the first hand hold, the first kiss, the sweetness of a new relationship. I miss being giddy with girlfriends and wondering if he will call. It was fun...and of course, I never really enjoyed it, cause I was always looking for Mr. Right (most of the time, I found Mr. Wrong!) but my search was driven and I didn't really get to enjoy the little moments - like I could now, after being married for almost eighteen years...but I don't want to be single and dating now - heavens NO! What a scary thought. I can just miss it a little, which in turn, makes me appreciate marriage all the more!!
VCRs. I loved my vcr. I remember when my daddy first broke down after many months of my pleading, and bought our family one. He tried to set it up, and being the non-mechanically inclined person he is, he quickly determined it something we didn't need and put it back in the box. My stubborn will kicked in and my mother and I set the vcr up and soon I was recording tv shows with the rest of the world. I loved the freedom it gave me to come and go, to work, or school or church, and yet still be able to catch episodes of my favorite shows, which at that time were As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Miami Vice and at one point, I recorded the entire mini-series of North and South. I still have those videos by the way, and just the other day, I saw a boxed dvd set of North and South and just smiled and walked on by...I saved myself about forty dollars -- cause I have orginal videos that are only about twenty-five year olds!! hee hee ! Nowadays, the vcr is antiquated, DVRs and TIVO are the rage...but my husband is not a believer in things that cost extra money (well, unless they were built in 1957 and have four wheels...whoa, did I just say that out-loud? Shh...don't tell him that one either!) so we do not subscribe to the TIVO/DVR lifestyle. If I don't see a program when it is on, or catch it ON DEMAND (that comes free with our cable!!) I am just out of luck. I miss my vcr!!!!!!!!!
Being able to stay up all night. I used to do that. I remember it well. If there was a show on tv or a movie or a group of us sitting around talking and laughing...I could stay all night - sleep an hour or two and then get up and go to work or school. These days, I am lucky to be able to stay up until ten. And if there is a tv show on at ten, you can bet your last dollar that I will be able to watch the first fifteen minutes, and the wake up as the credits are rolling. Getting old is pitiful!
Those are some of the bits of my life that I miss, most of them deal with my youth and I guess it is just a bit of the birthday blues catching up to me. Life is speeding by very fast these days for me. Thanks for the indulgence! Now, Granny is off to put cold cream on her face and settle in to watch the nightly news with my nightly glass of Metamucil! :-)

Could I Have This Dance?
My friend Lisa and I are trying to convince our husbands to commit to some dance lessons. We thought it would be a fun "couple" thing to do, maybe even give us a skill or two to use on that fantasy cruise we are always talking about taking.
Now, if any of you know my other half...you know that is a monstrously ridiculous task I am undertaking. I have tried pleading and begging, cooking a special meal, hinting, watching Dancing With The Stars non-stop when he is home, all to no avail. I have gotten ZIP - NADA - NO WAY as my answer every time.
But I am gonna post this on my blog, just in case the lower realms should freeze over and he decides to actually read the blog one day...maybe this will warm his heart toward the idea and the dance lessons can begin!!
It is such a sweet story...enjoy it - whether or not I ever get to dance!

Thankful on a Thursday
I am thankful this Thursday for...
My back deck. I have recently updated it with some pretty plants in pretty planters, a stereo system, some comfy cushions and it is now a delightful place to spend a quiet afternoon. Not that any afternoons in my house are quiet...but still a nice place to sit and hear loudness!!
My fish aquarium. We have added two more fish to Mr. Freckles' world, Sting and Steve (Perry of course! I am a "stuck in the 80's" chick, sorry!). It makes me smile to see the three of them swimming along, happy as, well, happy as fish...on my kitchen counter!
Reality tv on DVD. Oh goodness, how I have grown to love The Real Housewives of New Jersey and New York in the past few weeks...I aspire to be one of them. Truly! I have people to give a piece of my mind to and a few tables to flip!! Haha - just joking....but I do love my reality tv and the dvds that are available to catch me up on all the past seasons I have missed!
Books to read...I am currently reading four...all fiction, all interesting, all too good to put down. I am pacing myself through them by reading four at a time. I hate to finish a good book!!
My friends...you know who you are. You have walked the journey with me, you are there for me at every bend and dip in the road. You have listened to me moan and groan and wonder and reason it all out. You have laughed with me and cried with me and the last year would not have been livable without you! Love you! Truly I do!

The Day the Cow Came To School!

Happy Wednesday!
Last week my child's picture was in the paper. They had a special event at school...a cow, named Molly came and they got to see her, pet her, watch a milking demo...it was exciting stuff...for a five year old anyway.
I don't know if you can see her in this picture above...but she is dead center...and the ONLY child with her hand raised in the picture. I spotted her immediately but then again, I am her mom. It is funny though, she always has something to say but thankfully, at least this time, she was being polite and raising her hand!

A Weekend ReCap!
What a busy weekend...
Saturday morning we participated in a car show in our area, the first time "Hardwood Floors" made her debut here on the local car show circuit! It was an exciting morning for my hubby! He entered both of his cars in the show, the girl and I showed up and spent the day with him and other car enthusiasts under the tent...watching the people stroll. It was a beautiful day, sunny with a little breeze and we had a wonderful time.
After a brief afternoon nap, the three of us headed to one of our favorite restaurants for a late night supper and then it was lights out...we were tired!!
This afternoon, after church and lunch with all the grandparents, Hannah and I sat on the back deck and enjoyed a little mommy and daughter time. We built a fire and she serenaded me with her guitar. It was such fun, I hated to see the sun set and an end to a perfectly wonderful family-filled weekend.

Lunch With A Friend
Lunch with a friend
In a "grown up" restuarant
No paper packaging, or cartoon characters, or special toys inside
Ketchup in a real bottle, no playground in sight.
No counter ordering
Just hot, Southern comfort food
Brought TO me, on a plate
With sweet tea aplenty
No DS
No crayons
No million trips to the bathroom just to check it out
A taste of before and what will come again too soon
Helps to me hang on and
Still savor the time I am in
Lunch with a friend.

Hope you have a fabulous day!

CSI
Back to the scene of the crime.
No caution tape.
No police cars.
No chalk line marks the spot.
The scene of this crime goes without a marker.
The blood and the sinew spilled out in that place.
Do not exist on this plane.
It is a heart that was shattered,
A soul ripped and torn.
The crime was not against me.
It was not against you,
But it injured us,
And all we were.
There is a ghost that haunts there.
Walks the steps, and sways to music.
Bathes in the water, lounges in the downy comfort.
An unseen watcher, observing
The scene of the crime.

Goo Goo Dolls!!!
So, last night we went to a little concert. Danny and me and about two or three thousand of our closest friends.

Here a few pics... first up, Will McRaine. Cool local dude, joined on stage by Jacob Beltz...another cool, multi-talented dude.
Then Occasional Milkshake...dudes from some cool bands...Hootie and The BlowFish, Blue Dogs and Cravin Melon. Awesome....whoo hoo!! I would travel to see this band!
Next on the ticket. Colbie Cailatte...I only knew two songs, even more shocking...my hubby knew one of them too, but still a great performance set, cool band especially!
And then....The Goo Goo Dolls. I am a huge fan. Loved them since they first came on the scene about fifteen years ago, still love them today. In fact, there have been quite a few Goo Goo Doll references here and here , oh and definitely here, on this old blog through the years....and I am sure there will be many, many more before it is all said and done. Their lyrics tend to say things I wish I could say more often than not...I kinda like the lead singer too...it is American Rock and Roll baby, and I LOVE IT!
It was a great evening...my ears were ringing when it was over and my throat was a little sore, and I think the pollen must have been bad or something cause I pretty much cried through their (first!) final song...Iris..."And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand...when everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am!!"

P.S. Yes, I know the pics are not that great...I was using my camera phone!!

It was a great evening...my ears were ringing when it was over and my throat was a little sore, and I think the pollen must have been bad or something cause I pretty much cried through their (first!) final song...Iris..."And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand...when everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am!!" You Say It's Your Birthday? Well, It's My Birthday Too!
Thank you Beatles and Ferris Bueller!
The day has arrived and I am feeling okay, except for a pollen induced headache...life is good!
I awoke to a quiet house, lots of birthday wishes (thank you facebook!!) and a beautiful day outside.
I am looking forward to spending it with my sweet little family... hope you enjoy your day just as much as I know I will.

And There Are Once Again 29 Candles On The Cake!
Tomorrow is my "big day." Another year older...a few more wrinkles on the face and bags under the eyes, but I am thankful for it.
Tonight we celebrated early and my parental unit and in-law parental units, as well as my sweet daughter and husband and I went to Logan's for dinner. We then hurried to my mom's house for cake and ice cream. I was greeted by surprise after surprise when I walked through the door. There was a pinata (princess themed!), bubbles blowing through the air and my daughter attacked me with silly string. Actually, after she attacked me, I quickly found a can and so did my mother and soon everyone was under attack! It was a great way to start off my birthday. My husband had taken my daughter shopping today and apparently they found a party supply store within their route... it was great fun!
Hannah couldn't wait to show me my gifts, so we hurried to the back porch where a GRAND beach chair awaited me. It is a really nice recliner, rocker type chair which I will break in tomorrow! I am looking forward to spending my actual birthday sitting in the sun, even if it is just my backyard...dreaming of the beach!
I also got gift cards and a pretty red impatience plant from my girl. Fun, Fun, Fun!
Tomorrow night my husband is taking me to a Goo Goo Dolls concert in our city...there is after all a little golf tournament happening here this week and every year a local golf driving range puts on a benefit concert. Last year we saw Hootie and the Blowfish, Shawn Mullins and Zac Brown Band. This year we are seeing the Goo Goos and Colbie Caliet. So excited! There is nothing I like better than sitting outside, listening to live music and people watching. Tomorrow night - I get to all three!
So far, this birthday is turning out to be a great one. Makes turning 29 a little bit easier this year!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Easter Wrap Up!
We survived Easter weekend and all of it fun and EGGcitement!! Hee, hee, hee. I will be happy to not see anymore plastic eggs for awhile! Four egg hunts later...we have enough candy to last us until Halloween!
Yesterday, after a wonderful church service, we joined my in-laws at my parent's house for a Easter lunch that was scrumptious. My mom can cook...it was great! The grandpa's hid eggs and Hannah found them, then I convinced myself that I needed a nap and took one! Two hours later, my child was waking me up telling me it was time to go home. We got home, unloaded the car and settled in for relaxing evening. It was such a great feeling to know that we didn't have to go to work or school on Monday! Gotta love Spring Break!
Here are some pictures from the day...hope you enjoyed your Easter Sunday as much as we did
The Easter Bunny came and left some goodies!
On the way to church!
The Easter Bunny came to my mom's house too...
And this is how we ended the evening...a fierce game of Mario Kart. These two are a bit serious about the game, don't you think?

Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail...No, Wait..It Is Just Hannah!
Today was the annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a fun filled afternoon at our friends Jim and Nancy Wall's place, aptly named Wallden Pond! We have so enjoyed going every year with Hannah to celebrate Easter and be with good friends. This year we were happy to have all four of the grandparents with us for the afternoon, although I failed to get a single picture of them...sorry! I will do better tomorrow at lunch for sure!
Here are a few pics of the afternoon.
Hannah, ready and waiting to get those eggs!

Hannah and the Easter Bunny!

Hunting those eggs with her favorite guy!

A worn out egg-hunter!

And finally, there real reason we celebrate...
At the Cross, At the Cross, where I first saw the light and the burden of my heart rolled away, it was there by faith, I received my sight and now I am happy all the day!
Happy Easter Eve Everyone!!

Thankful Thursday
Haven't visited this in awhile...but on this Thursday, April 1st...I am not going to be an April Fool and forget my blessings.
I am thankful today for:
-friends who pop into my office unexpectedly...WITH GIFTS!
-the chaos in my house, for it reminds me that it is no longer a household of two working adults who are rarely home, it is a home with two adults, a crazy five year old, tons of stuffed animals, loads of laundry, shoes in the middle of the floor, crayon drawings scattered all around and tons of noise and laughter.
-crisp Spring air in the mornings
-purple pansies and red geraniums
-a frosted sugar cookie
-conversations with someone who shares my history
-plastic eggs and treasures inside
-my sweet girl who is no where NEAR shy and gets bragged on by adults who teach her, such a joy
-Comcast ON DEMAND, allowing me to spend time with my family and then catch up on the latest tv shows after the house is quiet!
-That Thursdays are my Fridays and we are officially on SPRING BREAK!
-songs that take words directly from my heart and mind and blast themselves out of my radio!
-books that are so good I read them too fast!
-the ability to ask God for the things I lack, and know that He will give them
-the sound of relief in someone's voice at the end of a struggling day and the assurance that I was able to help them, in even the smallest way, through the tough time.
-technology, cell phones, computers...all good!
-for my life, the good, the bad and the ugly...wouldn't trade it today for anyone else's!
