The Making of a Scarecrow

Hannah and I went to our first ever Scarecrow Making Party Sunday afternoon.

It was GREAT fun. Hannah had been looking forward to it since Friday when I told her about it. I promised if she were on her best behavior for the weekend that we would go. And so, Sunday afternoon we gathered our supplies - a pair of overalls, plaid shirt, pillowcase for the head and a hat and we headed to my friend Don's home.
Now, I haven't seen my friend Don in about ten years, never met his wife or children, so I was excited to go - just to see him again and meet his family. Hannah was just excited about the scarecrows.

The party was set up for success. Clearly Don and his wife are professional scarecrow makers. They had tables set up for supplies like rubber bands and safety pins along with bales and bales of hay for stuffing. There was a table of craft items, orange plates and black felt, just begging to be made into a jack-o-lantern.
After Hannah and I stuffed our little scarecrow, she was able to paint a face on him and then we set out to see what other fun we could get into.

She made a cute paper plate pumpkin, and then we hit up the snack table. Hannah's favorites were all there - cheetos, pretzels and lots of cookies, even some cookies with yummy orange icing. The food was great, but what really got her attention was the ice cubes in the punch - they had gummy worms frozen into them - and oh my - what a hit that was with my little tomboy! It was such a fun experience. I am so glad my little one got to have the experience and I am so thankful for friendships that last through time and space. It also makes me once again appreciative of the modern technology that helps reconnect old friends and form new relationships.

How fun to see my high school friend again, all grown up with a family - I am so glad he thought to invite me and my little one.

The whole gang with all the newly created straw people!!

So - how did you spend your fun Fall October weekend?
