Today's post is of a different sort - it is intended ONLY to make a friend of mine smile.
She and I share a really good friendship, although we seldom are actually in each other's presence - usually we do all our communicating through email. I would not get through life without her sage advice, kind words and daily prayers. Recently, she and I have been emailing back and forth on a more regular basis and it does my heart good to see her name pop up in my email "in" box.
Because of our long history together, we have loads of secrets and private jokes and understandings that need no words. The shorthand language of friendship. The following clip, from the movie "The Talented Mr. Ripley" will mean NOTHING to anyone but the one friend whom I know will eventually see this post sometime today or tomorrow in the middle of her really busy weekend.
I apologize to the rest of you - but you can just enjoy the clip if you like, or skip it and have a great day.
As an outsider to our world of friendship, you could try and figure it out, the meaning, or the private joke, but I GUARANTEE you almost 100% that you cannot. Could it be the boat, something in the boat, Matt Damon's glasses, Gwenoyth's outfit, the water, the wind, the boys playing in the ocean, what could it be? As a woman,if you have ever had a close girlfriend, you know that even the smallest detail about something can cause a giggle or laughter, that something with no meaning to anyone else on the planet, can have a tremendously funny, or poignant meaning to you as friends. That is what this is - just our little slice of life, that only we understand. I will go to my grave with the secret. And if you are having a boring Saturday and nothing to do but sit and analyze us and the clip and do figure it out, you must keep it to yourself - that is how secrets and private jokes work, my friends!
Anyway - this is for YOU. Enjoy! I cherish you and our friendship in my life!
Living Happily Ever After,
Beverly
