Around these parts, it is all about the dogs. We have two Labradors that make our hearts smile every time we see them. They are lovable, they are funny and every now and again, they get into a bit of mischief.
Across the street, we have neighbors, well, let's just say they are our arch nemesis. Nothing really bad has gone on between our two families - but if we were the Hatfields, they would be the McCoys! And in their yard, it has been all about roosters, gamecocks, if you will.
After the initial fallout between our two households, we grew up, got over and carried on with life. Then, early this spring they brought home two roosters. Now, on one hand, they were beautiful creatures - strutting their feathers and cock-a-doodle dooing, but on the other hand, it is against our neighborhood covenant to have free-range roosters or any other barnyard animals. This is the part of the story where I am trying not to mention that both the husband and the wife of our neighbor duo are in the law enforcement and legal fields...I was trying, but there I went and spilt that bean!!
So, we tried to be accommodating.... but it has been a long summer, early morning wake up cock-a-doodle-doos and all. We did notice a month or so ago that there was only one rooster crowing... apparently someone or something had chicken for dinner. And truthfully, my husband and I have had to rein in our complete desire to run them over with the car, on the occasions we have seen them in the road. It has become just another challenge to life on our street.
That is until tonight.
It started out as an average evening at home. Hubby was cutting the grass, my daughter was running around "helping" him and our sweet dogs were laying around chomping on sticks and chewies and whatever else they could find.
Turns out... the whatever else happened to be the last remaining rooster.
Yes - apparently he cock-a-doodle dooed, one to many times for our chocolate lab Georgia. My husband spotted her with something in her mouth and went to investigate. The closer he got, the clearer the picture became as feathers started to fly and she continued to wring the rooster's ...ah... neck!!
Danny came and got a trash bag and disposed of the remains. We seriously thought about cooking up some fried chicken but decided against it.
But the story did remind us of something...
It kinda reminded us of last Saturday.
You know when Georgia wrung the Gamecocks' neck on the grid iron.... yes, it was indeed just like that!!
GO DAWGS!!! WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!!
Love and Hugs to all my sweet friends who are Carolina Fans!!

Hee Hee -- I wondered how long it would take my sweet Carolina friends to respond. Now, you know I don't give a hoot about football - but my husband thought up this idea for the post... and I couldn't resist.
We are NOT sad about the rooster... we have had two mornings of peace!!!
